One of the primary causes employees at Daimler Trucks North America are passionate about is environmental stewardship. When there was an opportunity for the company to partner with the Portland Trail Blazers to give back to the community where we have been headquartered for over seven decades, we saw a natural connection to support Friends of Trees, a Portland-based non-profit organization that helps improve the urban tree canopy in the local community.
The Threes for Trees program was designed so that DTNA would donate three trees to Friends of Trees for each three-pointer scored by the NBA team during the season, and 30 trees per three-pointer during post-season. Employees and guests who sit in the Daimler Threehouse, a prime viewing section of the Moda Center during Trailblazers games, can track the three-point shots completed each game while cheering on the team.
Since the program launched in 2014, the Trailblazers have scored 2,523 three-point shots in the regular season and 221 in the post season, resulting in Daimler Trucks North America’s donations of 14,199 trees, many of which were planted in the Sandy River Delta Park by hundreds of employee volunteers. This spring, employees got their hands dirty alongside the Trailblazer’s broadcast team and their mascot, Blaze the Trail Cat.
The initiative has helped to restore the Sandy River Delta Park’s riparian wetland back to its pre-dam splendor. The planting of native oaks and shrubs creates habitat for threatened fish and birds, curbs the incursion of non-native plant species, and ensures that generations to come will be able to enjoy this recreation area that Meriwether Lewis and William Clark praised for its natural beauty.

According to the American Trucking Association, 70 percent of all freight is moved by truck. Whether keeping supply chains humming and retail centers stocked, or delivering items directly to your doorstep, let’s face it; trucking serves as the backbone of the American economy.
