At Daimler Truck North America, we are developing real electric vehicles for real world applications. The heavy-duty Freightliner eCascadia® is heavy-duty designed for local and regional distribution and port drayage. The Freightliner eM2® is a medium-duty truck designed for pick-up and delivery and last-mile logistics. Both the eCascadia and eM2 are currently planned to enter series production in late 2021. The Thomas Built Buses Jouley™ electric school bus is designed to transport students throughout North America safely, quietly and emission-free. Series production for the Jouley begins in 2020.

With recent enhancements to the Detroit Assurance suite of safety systems, Daimler Truck North America is the first manufacturer to put partially automated driving features (SAE level 2) into series production. The Detroit Assurance 5.0 Adaptive Cruise Control and Active Lane Assist (Lane Keep Assist) features make automated driving possible in all speed ranges for the first time in a series production truck. Automating acceleration, deceleration and steering helps reduce the chance for human error and potentially reduce accidents. The newly established Autonomous Technology Group is part of Daimler Trucks’ global effort to put highly automated trucks (SAE level 4) onto the roads within a decade. To achieve this, Daimler Trucks is investing more than EUR 500 million (more than USD 570 million). In commercial trucking, level 4 is the logical next step after level 2 to increase safety as well as efficiency and freight efficiency.

The Detroit Connect platform, installed on each Freightliner® Cascadia®, allows for the expansion of connectivity services to deliver flexibility in how customers access their fleet data. The Detroit Connect platform enables the integration of services from third party telematics providers to be supported via the platform, providing customers the freedom to work with the partner of their choice, as well as eliminating the need to install additional hardware.
